Little St. Simon's is the perfect place to immerse yourself in a gorgeous restorative natural setting. You will literally get away from it all while being spoiled by the staff who prepare and present incredibly delicious meals. The personable knowledgeable naturalist staff provide guided experiences on the water through sinuous salt marsh creeks and while hiking the many lovely wooded trails. The immense beach is spectacular for walking, fishing and shelling. Spring and fall are tailor made for bird enthusiasts of all levels.
We spent a week on the island and except for the mosquitoes it was wonderful. But being a coastal marsh, some mosquitoes are to be expected. They have many different activities to take part in daily. The staff are outstanding and took care of all our needs. Chef Mike even blackened the Redfish I caught daily for their social hour before dinner. Having miles of beach all to ourselves was very relaxing and pleasant.
The staff is exemplary and would rival top resort personnel in Germany and Austria. Everyone raves about the food and for good reason — it is fine quality. The environment surrounding the camp/lodge is quite beautiful with abundant birdlife and the assorted alligators and armadillos.
We stayed at Tom's House with was rustic but fine for 3 night stay—the only issue was the A.C which was so loud we couldn't sleep with it on. The tap water does have a bad smell and taste as it is drawn from a well and most likely has mineral deposits. Luckily soft drinks, tap beer, and wine is free!
There is a serious mosquito situation on the island, except on the beach or in a skiff, and it is necessary to apply insect repellent whenever you are outside. I would also suggest bringing or buying (in the lodge store) Insect Shield clothing as you will benefit from it greatly.
The big and rather unpleasant surprise were the multiple stuffed dead animals displayed on the walls and in/on cases in the lodge. There are many deer heads looking down at you.
Overall because of the staff and the birdlife it was a good stay and we will most likely return.
Absolutely beautiful the wonders of nature to unwind, recharge and enjoy excellent food. Am sure to return again.
Fun layout, great views out there. Absolutely breathtaking. Gives you a new appreciation for how good the pro golfers really are!!!! The course WILL punish you! This is definitely where all the money on the island is. But WELL worth it. Greens roll true and VERY fast. Pace of play can be a little slow but it is expected. Bring a ton of balls! Cant wait to come back and play it again!!!
