Truly the crossroads of Italy. The most central railway station in all of Italy. But I am amazed at how underdeveloped this station is along with many other major stations such as Milano Centrale and Roma Termini. I am amazed to look at the vast areas of tracks that divide the city. This is massive wasted space. This space is worth many many hundreds of billions of euro. When will the Italian railway company wake up and build a massive concrete platform above the tracks that can accommodate hundreds of high-rise apartment buildings, offices, and stores? I look at this space above the tracks and believe that the Italians just do not understand air-rights or what happened in mid-town Manhattan around Grand Central. Looking at this wasted space makes me ill. These spaces must be filled with hundreds of high-rise buildings. This is the most environmentally sound plan and Trenitalia could even reduce ticket prices to destroy competition from peripheral areas of the city.
Modern station, but nothing extraordinary. The newer part is rather difficult to navigate. Transportation-wise, it is a very important hub of high speed trains, you can get to virtiually anywhere in Italy from here.
Very comfirtable traines ..and all are on time.
This is a large station with just about every convenience you could wish for. The ticket office in the entrance is open till 21:00 and there are plenty of self-service machines too, including for Italo. Everything is clearly signposted, in both Italian and English.
First time I've taken a train or been in a station in the COVID era. Huge efforts have been made to enforce social distancing and to keep arriving and departing passengers apart, both in the station and on the trains themselves.
Like in every station in Italy, there are large posters listing all the arrivals and departures in chronological order with platform number.
