Reviews from visitors:
The Chiesa di San Polo is very interesting church, dedicated to the Apostle Paul. It gives its name to the San Polo sestiere of the city, next to a beautiful and spacious square. Founded in the 9th century, the church of San Polo has since undergone two important interventions over the centuries that have changed their original Byzantine structure (two lions carrying pillars at the base of the bell tower are probably part of the original building). The first alteration was made in the 15th century, with transformations based on late Gothic styles and a beautiful portal made by Venetian architect Bartolomeu Bon, the second alteration in 1804 was made by architect Davide Rossi who transformed the church into a neoclassical style. The interior of the church is interesting and richly decorated with beautiful paintings by famous Venetian artists. Thus, inside the church, the painting "The Last Supper" is kept in the facade and on the first altar on the right side of "The Assumption of the Saints" by Jacopo Tintoretto. The presbytery space is entirely decorated with canvases by Jacopo Palma the Younger, while on the right and left are the Chapel of the Sacrament, a precious longobard work decorated with eighteenth-century Salviatia frescoes and an altar with Paolo Veronese's "Marriage of the Virgin." On the second altar in the left aisle is the canvas "The Virgin Appearing to San Giovanni Nepomucen", the famous work of Giambattista Tiepola (1754).
Beautiful church and they have really nice service!
Quiet church full of old masters. Charge you 3 euros to enter
Spectacular artworks in this beautiful church.
Built even a few centuries before the year 1000, on the orders of the Doge of those years; it was heavily restructured and modified first in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, then again in the sixteenth century; until the last changes occurred in the thirties. This meant that a multitude of different styles remained visible inside. Truly not to be missed.
