Pretty nice for a little airport. Looks modern and well maintained. We came in at night and left early morning so not sure if F&B options were supposed to be open or were closed for COVID. Did see some little snack stand open though. They have a car service called Epic Mountain Express based right inside the airport at the baggage claim area. Book a private car with them in advance. Very efficient way to get to/from the airport. Place not big enough for an airline lounge. Saw maybe 10 gates total.
This airport is small and convenient to the Vail Valley. The place is light on amenities and that's ok. Flying out of here saves you a 2-6 hour drive to Denver. Time depending on weather and traffic...
Much faster with the skis this year hopefully the escalator will be working soon. And maybe some more food options.
So it is now a rule that you cannot be in your car in the baggage claim loading area for more than 5 minutes or they tell you to "take a lap." So I can't wait for my elderly mother to get off the airplane and be waiting for her if it takes her more than five minutes to get to me. I arrive early so I can have a spot where she can see me and get easily to the car without worrying about ice. Now I have to take a lap and possibly lose my spot, though honestly there is no one here, and come back around which takes about 1 minute only to be kicked out again in 5 minutes. None of this is posted on their website at all by the way. I'll also emphasize again, no one is here! So why do I have to drive around and have a higher possibility of an accident because you are having to watch for pedestrians and other cars when the baggage claim pickup is nearly empty?
Great little regional airport about 30 minutes from Vail. It was clean, small and the staff is friendly from the counter clerk to the bartender. Not to mention the food at the airport was amazing - best airport meal I’ve had in a while, have the pizza. I’m giving it 4 stars because I would recommend hiring more staff during flight peak hours and improving the internet connection so the servers can place their orders quicker, the line ups were very long due to the rush and internet connection problem, I spent about 20 mins in each line up, and the service regardless of the wait was on point. They were doing the best they could considering the circumstances.
