Amazing Game of Thrones site.
In order to understand what this palace have to offer and understand it’s history, you must see it with a knowledgeable tour guide, if not all you will take away is Game of Thrones was filmed here.

The most interesting historical place in Croatia. Former emperor's palace turned to town. You still can recognise original palace buildings in the Old Town of Split. Beautiful Roman architecture and quite well-preserved after 17 centuries.
You can spend whole day in narrow streets of the former palace. It is a nice retreat in hot summer.
Try to wake up early in the morning or late in the night to really enjoy this marvelous piece of architecture without tourists around
Lots to see and many turns leaving you lost or feeling like you're going around in circles! People still live in the sectioned off rooms in the palace!
Best time to go is just before sunset and then watch the sun set through the arches in the far back facing the sea
The "old town" of Split, and old palace now merged with the city, it's and incredible place to explore, walk all over the streets, found the good restaurants and ice cream shops, take a drink a nice meal, and keep exploring, a walk is recommended by day and night, by day you can purchase entrance to the cathedral, Jupiter's temple, the crypt, museum and the big watch tower from where you will be able to see the whole city, the great Adriatic see and even some close islands, you can get a ticket only for the watch tower if you want, or the package for all this main attractions which I recommend, also you will learn some history, enjoy your time on the nice small streets of this palace, be safe, and have fun ;)!
