Visited museum on free hours booking online in advance. Huge collection of art
Great stuff and a pleasure to enjoy without crowds (i.e., pandemic). Brought a backpack, I guess I missed on the website where they said that's not allowed. And they mean it. No lockers, and no commercial locker facilities nearby. Back to hotel, drop backpack, back to museum. When I initially got my ticket, I was told I could return to get a *timed* ticket to enter the special exhibit. I asked what time I needed to return to ensure I got a ticket, and they said at latest an hour before closing at 8pm. Not knowing how long I would be in main museum, I chose not to get a timed ticket. When I went back to get ticket for special exhibition at 5:15pm I was told none were available. I asked if I could get one for the next day. No, sorry. That's a bummer. And why are photos not allowed???
I love it, you could breathe art and knowledge in every room of the museum. I enjoyed a lot looking at pictures, triptychs and portraits. You've gotta come, and if you're a teacher it is completely free. You just need to show your teacher's card. Ask for it in the school where you teach.
I absolutely loved this place! I spent in this museum for two days and was absolutely mesmerized by the collection. Velasquez is one of my favorite painters. Seeing his painting, in reality, was breathtaking. For one thing, I never imagined they are so huge:) And apart from Velasquez, Prado's collection is a masterpiece after masterpiece, Goya, El Greco, Rubens. If you are in Madrid, this is really not the place to miss.
Amazing place to visit, learn and appreciate history. I've spent 2 days visiting this place and still couldn't finish it. Those visiting Madrid, it's a recommended place only if you have interest in past. If I compare between Vatican & Prado, Prado is my top choice.
