We drove up all the way to the top in our little Volkswagen Up! The area above the tree line o ly has gravel roads, some pretty rocky, but if you drive slowly no problem. The views from the top are awesome in all directions. You can see Monte Vettore and also the Gran Sasso massif further south. There are a number of hiking trails laid out too.
Really wonderful place
If you like nature, hils, long walks or you want to challenge yourself go on the top. I tried the way from Spello to Assisi and it was really hard but definitely worth it.
You can enjoy the beautiful views on the countryside and also on the horses and cows that are on the top. And if you are lazy there is also a way for cars. Just google some touristic ways and go, but I recommend to download the maps offline, there are some places in the forest with low mobile signal.
